Capitol Hill Day School is a coeducational independent school serving students from Prekindergarten through 8th grade.

Our extensive Field Education program — we organize over 300 field trips per year — engages students in the rich community that surrounds us, building confident learners able to navigate their community, their learning, and ultimately, their lives. All field trips are intricately linked to the curriculum and provide students hands-on learning experiences.

Located in a historic building in the heart of the nation’s Capital, Capitol Hill Day School offers a strong academic program in small nurturing classroom settings. Guided by two lead teachers in Prekindergarten through 5th grade, children focus on patterns and relationships in studies of science, mathematics, literature, language, history, and culture. In addition, art, music, library, physical education, Spanish and French are integral components of our curriculum. Our Middle School program appropriately challenges students academically and 6th, 7th, and 8th graders assume increasing responsibility and take on leadership roles in the School. All of our teachers work together to integrate the curriculum so that subjects are studied in depth and from many different angles. Self-expression is stressed through writing and art, and children are taught to respect each others’ ideas and differences. Community participation is stressed through cooperative activities and local volunteerism. The School values and encourages parents to participate actively in the life of the School.
