Bullis School

Bullis is an independent, co-educational college preparatory day school offering 670 students (45% are girls, and 55% are boys) in grades 3 through 12 an educational program of excellence in a community that values integrity, respect, diversity and service. A caring faculty, personal attention and small classes are all hallmarks of a Bullis education. Our faculty fosters a positive attitude about learning and challenges our students to achieve their highest potential. The school's strong academic curriculum is balanced with athletics, fine arts and community service. Virtually 100% of Bullis graduates attend 4-year colleges.

Situated on a beautiful, spacious 102-acre campus in Potomac, Maryland, Bullis is about 12 miles from the nations capital and is conveniently close to the District of Columbia, its Maryland suburbs and most Northern Virginia communities. This central location provides ready access to the rich resources of the metropolitan area.

Bullis School has a proud heritage. Founded in 1930 by Commander William F. Bullis in downtown Washington, D.C., Bullis was originally established as a preparatory school for the United States Naval Academy. Having outgrown its city facility, the school moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1934 and subsequently began to offer a four-year college preparatory program. Bullis moved to its present campus in the early 1960s. Since then, Bullis has evolved into an independent, coeducational, ten-year, college preparatory school.

Bullis is governed by an independent Board of Trustees that includes several alumni as well as parents. Bullis's annual expenses are met through tuition, the annual giving program and endowment. The Alumni Association, which represents the schools 4,000 graduates, and the Parents Association contribute significantly to the ongoing programs. Bullis is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Maryland Department of Education. It is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, Independent Education, the Association of Independent Maryland Schools, the Secondary School Admission Test Board and The Black Student Fund.
