Flint Hill Students Use Twitter in the Classroom
Oct 16, 2009
Flint Hill School students are tweeting in the classroom, with their teacher’s permission.
In an article on social media in the classroom, Education Week profiles Flint Hill teacher Lucas Ames and his use of Twitter to foster student discussion about American history. His students have been posting notes on everything from the persistence of racism to comparisons between Virginia’s tobacco laws in the colonial period and today. According to Ames, Twitter encourages participation from students who are not normally as connected to the course material as he would like.
